Bill Joyce is a trial lawyer and partner in Barry McTiernan & Moore LLP’s general liability group and heads the New York construction practice. He has extensive experience litigating New York Labor Law claims, insurance coverage disputes, and commercial matters in state and federal courts.
Bill manages a team of attorneys handling a large caseload of New York Labor Law cases. His practice included complex multi-party construction accidents, property damage claims, and general liability claims including premises and auto liability. Bill’s complex Labor Law cases routinely include multi-million-dollar disputes from inception to trial and appeal including obtaining reported decisions on contractual defense and indemnification.
Bill has three decades of experience defending businesses, general contractors, construction managers, developers, and subcontractors in high-profile general liability, complex Labor Law, and construction disputes including catastrophic injury and wrongful death claims.
Bill’s clients include multi-national, national, and regional owners and general contractors who regularly turn to Bill to reduce potential exposure in multimillion-dollar lawsuits involving serious injuries, fatalities, and wrongful death allegations. Through partnerships with his clients and their insurers Bill delivers the highest possible level of service to minimize liability and control defense costs through efficient and well-planned strategies.
Bill also serves his clients by providing insurance coverage recommendations and litigating same, including analyzing insurance policies regarding primary and/or excess coverage related to commercial general liability and property liability.
Bill earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Rutgers College graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1192. He received his Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 1995 where he was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society.
New York Labor Law continues to expand posing significant challenges for the construction and insurance industries. Bill and his team have developed a strong reputation in the building industry for providing sophisticated and creative defenses. He is well-versed in risk transfer strategies and has extensive experience navigating litigation in wrap-up programs including identifying and pursuing targets for shifting the risk off of the wrap-up policy.
Bill was a volunteer youth soccer coach for 20 years. He is also an avid obstacle course racer.
